A Merion Station Master Bath, Opened Up and Rebuilt

A full wall split the tub from the shower, leaving the room closed off and inefficient. We planned a more open layout through 3D renderings, then took the bathroom to the studs and rebuilt it around better flow, a freestanding tub, and a fully waterproofed custom shower.

The Project

Removing the Wall That Closed the Room Off

The existing master bathroom was outdated and worked against itself. A full wall divided the jacuzzi tub from the separate shower, making the whole room feel closed off and inefficient. The homeowner wanted better flow, a smarter layout, and a more current design.

We started with 3D renderings so the homeowner could see the more open layout before committing. Once the direction was approved, the bathroom came down to the studs and was rebuilt around openness and function:

Removed the wall dividing the tub and shower
Extended the shower depth and built a pony wall
Added a custom shower bench and a custom shampoo niche
New plumbing, insulation, drywall, and full waterproofing
A custom niche near the freestanding tub for function and detail

The finished bathroom brings in special-order vanities, a freestanding tub, custom herringbone tile on the wall, marble tile on the shower floor, and marble accents across sections of the wall.

It’s our process in one room: identify what doesn’t work, plan a better layout through design, coordinate the rough-in and waterproofing correctly, and deliver a bathroom that’s more open, functional, and elevated.
