A Dark Old City Hallway Bath, Rebuilt Bright From the Studs Up

A dated tub-and-tile hallway bathroom, dark, closed-in, and past its life, taken all the way back to the framing. We corrected what was hidden behind the walls and floor, then rebuilt it as a bright walk-in shower with marble-look tile and brass fixtures.

The Project

From a Dark, Dated Tub Bath to a Bright Walk-In Shower

The original hallway bathroom was dark and dated. Dark faux-marble tile wrapped the tub surround and floor, the vanity was small, and the whole room felt closed-in and past its life. The homeowner wanted something brighter, more open, and built to last.

We took it to a full gut and started with what mattered most, the parts no one sees:

Demolition down to the studs, tile, tub surround, and flooring removed
New plumbing run through the opened floor and walls
Full waterproofing at the shower base, curb, and niche
New substrate and framing corrected where the old work had failed

With the structure sound and properly waterproofed, we rebuilt the room around light and function. The tub gave way to a walk-in shower finished in bright stacked tile on the back wall, with large-format marble-look porcelain on the side walls. A framed niche with a stone sill adds storage, a pebble-mosaic floor adds texture underfoot, and warm brass fixtures carry the finish.

It’s our before-through-after process in one room: correct the hidden problems first, waterproof and build correctly, then deliver a bathroom that’s brighter, more open, and better built than what it replaced.
